Glenn Schwartz January 2008

January 2008 (with still one last Thursday to go) has been a MONSTROUS month for Glenn and band. We've been treated to stunning versions of:

Water Street (which opened the 1/24 show !!!)

Motor City -> which just keeps getting bigger and better

Old Man Daniel -> Glenn's slide playing on this song is SUCH a treat

Ode to Glenn Schwartz ( "Promises Promises")

Children of the Day -> played in the 3rd set of 1/24

My Poor Generation

As well as the usual onslaught of blues improvs that are completely out of hand.

Although Glenn keeps saying that his "time isn't long" and that "his eyes are going on him," his playing is at a level never seen or heard before. Those of us who were around in 1998-2000 remember the 1st glorious Glennaissance, but this 2nd Glennaissance consists of a wider range of songs, immaculate playing by Gene and drummers, and Glenn setting a higher standard for himself every week. This man, in his late 60s, can outplay and outlast anybody on the guitar. He is a true inspiration to musicians.

Glenn was sad last week (1/24) because he had to put a cat down at the veterinarian's. I believe the cat's name was "Mr. Kinky" which he referred to in a song. He also (over the years as well) referred to his pet(s) simply as "Friend."  However, he channeled all of his sadness into a gorgeous 3 set night. May God continue to bless Glenn.

As a final note, it's great to see the dedication among the many regulars on Thursday night at Hooples. While I only know the names of a handful, I will say thanks to them here for bringing support and energy to Glenn. Word to : Dom, Buffalo Steve (and his friend Lance), Sam, Pete, Carl, and all the other people who I see but have yet to meet.
