Deja-vu - The Power of Three
by Dom
Well a few weeks back I told y’all about the coming in threes thing and as great as last week was, GS trumped himself yet again and laid down what was some of the most triumphant, imaginative, and ferocious guitar lines I‘ve ever heard. He started early at about 9:15 with nary a drummer in sight. I spoke to GS because when the drummer is late its Brother McFadden. GS confirmed he was on and would be there at 9:30. So Glenny stated early (solo) with harp and did nice little version of “Down in the Bottom “and a really cool version of “John the Revelator”. In the meantime, the kit was being set up by BM and Glenn was getting nice and loose. He even mumbled as much as the band was getting in place and things were getting rolling…Old Man Daniel came next and the boys started to cook….I’ll leave the rest of the set for the recording but to say it was earth shattering wouldn’t be much of a stretch. Mountaintop, Spanish Inquisition, Promises all the usual suspects arrived on time and on target.
The second set was a bit of a blur as the regulars starting showing up in droves as GS pushed the envelope once again with a powerful version of Chicago that heads bobbing all around Major Hoopples. The rest of the set was just filled with nuggets and soaring guitar solos. Last night Glenn Schwartz clearly demonstrated that any conversation that Rolling Stone has about the “100 greatest guitar player of all time” is an utter joke, as Hendrix (the number 1 slot) would have wet himself after the onslaught the GS laid down…
